The Chapel is open to visitors from the beginning of May until the end of September Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 2pm-4pm, Saturday 10am to 12 noon or by arrangement, and is used throughout the year for a great variety of activities:

Heritage

Court and Law Day

Maintaining and conserving the historic heritage of the building and its unique archives, which cover many aspects of the building’s years as a Grammar School, is our main purpose. The unique Listed Grade ll* building is a focus for Ashburton town heritage.

Portreeve’s Flag

The historic Portreeve Ceremony and Ancient Court Meetings take place here. Ashburton History and Preservation Society also meet here.

The Portreeve's Flag leads any procession that the Portreeve is taking part in such as Portreeve's Sunday and Remembrance Sunday.

Culture

The building is used for a variety of activities including music, drama, poetry and arts and crafts events and groups. It is a major centre for the Assoc. Board Royal School of Music Exams and is one of the venues for the annual Two Moors Festival.

Community

St Lawrence Chapel is used by many local and regional groups and organisations for a wide range of community activities and exhibitions and is a major centre for all kinds of music because of the superb acoustics in the Chapel.

Accessibility - it is possible for us to accommodate disabled users with prior arrangement as disabled access needs advanced booking for gate opening from Woodlanders. We have accessible toilet facilities and ramps available.
